celebrate storytelling of all sorts at the clunes booktown festival this march
Books, live music, authors and more, surrounded by autumn leaves in regional Victoria. How cosy is that?
Writerly types and bookish folk of Victoria – this one’s for you. The Clunes Booktown Festival is returning to the state’s regional town of (you guessed it) Clunes on March 25th and 26th for a weekend of storytelling, workshops, live music and tasty eats.
Each year, the event delves into all-things books, from the unique stories and their authors to the physical process of making, illustrating, publishing and retailing the books. This time around, the festival will also explore storytelling through the mediums of film, music, theatre, songwriting, photography, visual arts and more.
Joining the 2023 program are authors and conversationalists like Tony Birch, Jefa Greenaway, Jacinta Parsons, Ponch Hawkes, Sophie Cunningham, Miles Allinson, Emily Bitto and Emma Viskic, as well as a line-up of visual artists, film and TV makers, theatre folks and musicians. This year’s festival will also host the Tin Shed Show – a night of live music from Kee’ahn, The Idiomatics, The Footscray Gypsy Orchestra, The McNaMarr Project and David Bridie. And as always, during the day you can expect to find a book bazaar in the main street, where you’ll be able to buy new, second-hand, antiquarian, contemporary, rare and popular books.
