bette davis eyes

We've got all eyes on Frances Goodman’s embroidered works.

Of all the materials artist Frances Goodman has put to good use – eyelashes, false nails, a million tiny sequins – embroidery thread is probably the most conventional. The South African artist's embroidery on satin works may be more traditional than her other pieces, but the results are anything but ordinary. From far away, Frances’ eyes strike you as pencil drawings – up close, you'll notice each hair and lash is in fact a stitch. So who's peepers are peering out at us exactly? Why, they belong to some of the most beautiful women at the centre of pop music's greatest hits: Jolene, Bette Davis, Susie Q. You can see the full set of Frances' breathtaking series over here.
