a nice slice

And this is why you should play with your food.

Mukimono is the traditional Japanese art of decorative garnishing, and a fellow by the name of Gaku is demonstrating just how impressive the old mukimono can be. Gaku carves elaborate patterns into all manner of fruit and veggies with a simple blade – but, and this is imperative, he needs to work fast, lest the air completely discolour his work (that’s oxidization for you). Generally, he creates his artworks within minutes. Then, he eats them. Seems like a shame, but at least he’s got photos to remember them by. As do we – thanks to his Instagram.
