a mariachi piñata

Whacking this small mustachioed man to pieces shouldn’t be so appealing. But it is.

We don’t know who the first person was to put candy inside a papier mâché chamber, hang it from a tree and invite a bunch of people to smash it, but we’re sure glad they did. These days, though, piñatas come in so many sweet (and scrummy) designs that we almost feel ashamed for wanting to destroy them with a stick.

This mustachioed mariachi man, for instance, is one of the pretty-as-pie paper creations from Californian crafters Whack Piñatas. They’ve also got a fancy Frida Khalo and even fancier Audrey Hepburn up for grabs – head over to their online store to check out the full range available for smashing.
