Take a gander at some of our favourite artists, crafters and designers that highlight Palestine’s unwavering artistic identity.

Art has always acted as a powerful and peaceful form of resistance, and even amidst brutal apartheid and unimaginable destruction, Palestinian creativity still thrives both overseas and within the region. We’ve picked out some of our favourite creative peeps belonging to the Palestinian diaspora down below, each offering a unique portrayal of life under occupation and conflict.

Nöl Collective currently has an ace selection of garments that are all produced within Jerusalem, Gaza, Ramallah and Bethlehem, and they also work alongside local, women-owned and family-run cooperatives and workshops. We’re just a little bit in love with their most recent collection, which is dedicated to the “memory and preservation” of traditional Palestinian craft and design. Take a gander at their wares over at their online shop, or visit their Instagram page, if you fancy.

Malak Mattar is a Palestinian painter and author, most known for writing and illustrating the children’s book, Sitti’s Bird: A Gaza Story, which is inspired by her own experiences of childhood in occupied Palestine – specifically, the 2014 Israel invasion of Gaza. Her vibrant paintings have even caught the attention of acclaimed activist Angela Davis, who famously stated that “Palestine is a moral litmus test for the world”. Check out Malak’s art over here, or visit her Etsy shop if you want to nab one of her works for yourself.

Dana Albattrawi is a visual artist, illustrator and painter based in Sydney who also has a rad selection of Palestine-inspired apparel on her own Etsy shop to peruse through. Describing herself as a “daughter of Gaza”, Dana’s art is closely tied to the Palestinian struggle for freedom under Israeli occupation, using art as a medium to describe the reality of decades-long apartheid. You can visit Dana’s Instagram over here, or pop over to her online shop.

Trashy Clothing describes itself as an “anti-luxury luxury label” and has been a Palestinian fashion house since 2017, even capturing the attention of iconic fashion IT girls like Julia Fox and Bella Hadid. Trashy Clothing’s creative directors, Omar Braika and Shukri Lawrence, create clothing inspired by satire and kitsch, as they use fashion in order to present political statements against occupation and question colonial systems of power. Take a gander at their super-chic wares over here, and check out their Instagram page.
