a list of little homemade treats to get you through the day

Whoever said brain food can’t be delicious?

frankie x unidaysWe’ve teamed up with the folks at UNiDays to bring you stories about all the stuff you go through when you're studying. Did you know UNiDAYS members can nab a 15 per cent discount on their frankie magazine subscriptions? Well, now you do. Check the bottom of the story for more deets.

When it comes to seizing the day – whether that be schlepping through classes, slogging over assignments or simply just existing – there’s one magic trick that we love to keep up our sleeves. It’s the miracle cure for no motivation… it’s the little treat. Hangry folk are not productive folk, and so we’ve popped together this collection of scrumptious snacks from the frankie archive that are as easy to make at home as they are to gobble up during study breaks. Go on – you deserve a li’l treat.

HOMEMADE BEETROOT AND SWEET POTATO CHIPS If it’s homemade, it’s healthy – right? That’s the logic we’re bringing to these crispy as heck chips, anyway. When it’s crunch time at uni, it’s crunch time in chip land. Plus, these bad boys are super-easy to make.

VEGEMITE MACARONS A French person and an Australian person walk into a bar. They fall in love and have baby Vegemite macarons. At least, that’s how this origin story should go. This twist on Australia’s favourite yeast extract is a beauty to nibble on when you’re wanting a sweet kick alongside a crapload of salt.

HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE POCKY If you think homemade chocolate bikkies are ace, wait until you try this ripper snack. While nothing can beat the real deal, these homemade chocolate Pocky sticks are a fierce contender. Pop one in your gob and be on your merry way.

MIFFY BUNS Stop what you’re doing – Miffy buns have landed. These adorable buns will no doubt make you the most popular kid in the rare books section of the uni library. That is, until they kick you out for dropping Miffy crumbs all over ancient texts. Worth it, if you ask us.

SPRINGTIME OREOS The iconic Australian treat has had an upgrade, thanks to freeze-dried berries and matcha filling. This nifty recipe swaps out the monotony of Oreo’s creamy centre for something a li’l different, and we’re all for it.

FRENCH FRY SUGAR BISCUITS These little bits belong one place and one place only: smack-bang in the centre of your gob. Although, if you’ve gone to the effort of icing them with appropriately-coloured chip packet details and cute slogans like "yay", then they perhaps also deserve to be admired a little before being ingested.

PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE Fudged an exam? There’s only one cure for that, dear reader, and it’s fudge. This healthy spin on the classic li’l treat makes it the perfect one to whip out as you rush between classes or head into a test. Perhaps just don’t let it melt all over your digits if you’re about to sit down for an exam, because you’ll really fudge it then.
