a giraffe-neck knit

By Sophie Kalagas

Someone's got to keep those lanky necks nice and warm.

Mai Yamashita and Naoto Kobayashi don’t really need a good reason to do something. After all, the high school sweethearts once licked a giant gumball every day for months to see how long it would take to reach a normal size. (Six months, if you’re wondering.) It was also this flippancy that lead them to stitch together a life-size turtleneck jumper for a giraffe – one that probably won’t ever be worn by the lanky creature, but is darn cute all the same.

The woolly present took about two months of knitting one and purling two, and stands at four metres tall. Here’s hoping it one day makes it to their local Berlin Zoo.
