tiny tokyo

Anyone who’s ever set foot in Tokyo knows how easy it is to get lost in the massive swarm of streets, lights and sounds. She’s a big city, all right! That makes it even more impressive that photographer Ben Thomas has managed to make it look like a teeny-weeny toy set, using tricky camera skills. Yep, you’re looking at snaps of actual Japanese streets, not model-sized replicas. The effect is pulled off with tilt-shift photography, whereby you carefully tilt and shift the lens in different directions. The result is a very clever change in focus that fools the brain into thinking that it’s looking at a pint-sized version of the real thing. Pretty nifty, hey?
