bumming with jane

Patrick and Jane are hitting 30, madly in love, madly in lust and occasionally just plain mad. All of their furniture except the couch has been sold to the pawnbroker, they live on a diet of cheap wine, baked beans and whatever they can find in the dumpsters behind their local supermarket, and they take it in turns to hold down a part time job. Inspired by the poetry of Charles Bukowski and the modern Australian city, Bumming With Jane is a funny, loving and beguiling debut play from Tahli Corin. It's about love, poverty and the fleeting joy of choosing to live a free and ragged-arse life. The play runs from August 13 - September 7 at the Downstairs Theatre on Belvoir Street, Surry Hills. Aliens Vs Demons Vs Us

When Daniel Evans isn’t writing up a storm for frankie, one of his alter egos (believe us, he has a lot of them) spends his time as a theatre reviewer in Brisbane. He’s just spent the last few days big-upping this new production from La Boite, so we thought we’d ask him to write a guest blog for you all, about his newfound theatrical love, Attack of the Attacking Attackers:

“Tales from the Crypt meets South Park via It Came from the Black Lagoon! with a liberal sprinkle of just plain wrongness is La Boite Theatre Company’s world premiere of Attack of the Attacking Attackers! The crème de la crème of Queensland’s emerging theatre talent have joined forces to create this epic production that plays out like a love-letter to sci-fi. Featuring a storyline that’s as wonderfully ridiculous as the title suggests, all you need to know about the sheer awesomeness of this show is that one particular set piece involves armies of brownies fighting an invasion of warring aliens and demons for a holy book about interspecies sex. OMG. Kooky, off-kilter, rude and crude, this is a must-see for purveyors of fine culture! Attack of the Attacking Attackers plays at the Roundhouse Theatre, Kelvin Grove, until November 15th. Get your tickets at www.laboite.com.au.”
