If you’ve been spending your day looking at an ugly computer screen,
here’s something pretty to give your eyes a nice rest on a Monday afternoon.
MyPetSquare’s skivvy dress looks equally ready for the ‘70s-style ski chalet
or your next fondue party. Or, possibly, Olivia Newton-John convention.
It’s all warm, fitted and snuggly and ready to be ogled at the MyPetSquare
website. RRP $110.

Just have a gander at these pretty birdie baskets from Emma Davies’ exhibition Brocade. Emma is a Melbourne-based artist who works experimentally with industrial polypropylene, which she manipulates and brocades into the delightful shapes you see below. Her first Sydney show is on at Pablo Fanque galleries at 1 Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney until June 21. Worth a little look.
A few weeks ago we got an email from a nice lady called Rita from Brazil, who’d been
sent a copy of frankie through a swap organised on a site called swap-bot. We’ve had
some time to look around now and, just quietly, we’re totally freakin’ hooked. Basically,
you log in and sign on for a themed swap – art, books, craft, clothing, music or what
have you – then the ‘swap-bot’ randomly selects another person in your group for you
to mail something fun to, and someone else mails you a box ‘o’ goodness in reply.
Swappers are from all over the world and there’s all kinds of stuff to swap.
Yay and yay again x
Wheeeee! Our new issue is on newsstands today! There’s nine new talents in music,
art, film, writing, social work and the environment to meet, as well as interviews with
Death Cab for Cutie and CSS, a look inside the gracious home of Patience Hodgson
from The Grates, a recipe for CWA-approved scones, tips on winter hibernation, plates
that swear and more rants, fashion and more fun bits than you can poke a stick at.
A new NZ-based online retail store has just launched! The store is called inzivil,
and stocks a range of emerging New Zealand and Australian designer pieces. It’s
very user-friendly and they also sell to Australia. The first winter range stocks Ellery,
love-lies-bleeding (now called twentysevennames), twowhitebuddies, CHIP CHOP
and Kathryn Wilson…. plus a lovely little vintage collection … yum.
This morning we were delighted to find a cute lil pack from Kate Maree sitting in our mailbox. We love to receive mail, so to show our appreciation we wanted to share our sweet friend with you all. Kate Maree designs and makes pretty labels for your books, pencil cases from vintage fabrics and adorable stuffed toys. Ooooh…and have you ever seen such lovable business cards before?? Don’t think so!! Take a trip to katemareedesign.com for more. xx |

You wouldn’t want to get caught in the rain wearing it, or step too near a shredder, but we were still mighty impressed with this beautiful paper dress from Eloise Corr Danch. Eloise is a freelance stylist and artist (and frankie reader!) living in New York City, and the dress is part of an exhibition at the Anthropologie store there. Thanks for sending in your pics, Eloise. Sadly we can’t go see it in person, but it’s still super pretty to look at. |

| Mistress of the Upper Fifth is a lovely little label of necklaces, brooches, bags, purses and wallets. Sophie Splatt, the craftster behind the Melbourne-based label is a vintage fabric collector and is particulary inspired by design from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Her products are available at selected stockists in Melbourne, Sydney and online. |

| Mandy Sutcliffe, the beauty behind belle & boo – who was also featured back in issue 21 – is a naïve, quirky illustrator creating pieces of art that take you back in time. Her dainty touch, subtle palette and storybook-like content leave you in a dreamlike state, reminiscing about the days when your imagination was your reality. Now the fairytale of belle & boo has escaped its homeland of the UK and flown all the way over to Australia, landing in yet another world of magic: the land of Bob. Bob boutique is one of those little treasures, hidden away from the city … in the beautiful town of Bendigo. If you’re able to pop over (or maybe go on a little trek – 17 Williamson Street, Bendigo, Victoria) to Bob before September 30th you will find 15 of Mandy’s limited edition prints amongst an abundance of other little goodies. But no need to get into a fizzle if you can’t make it by then. Bob has lots of exhibitions on the horizon, and you know this will not be the last time you hear about Mandy Sutcliffe.. |
