young heretics

Oh goodie, new indie tunes. Melbourne based duo, Matthew Wright and Kitty Hart are Young Heretics who love warped pop music and sonic invention. Their music is super theatrical with haunting dual vocals on their first track The Lost Loves. They’ll be playing a few gigs in Melbs – one on 1st May at the Curtin Band Room, the other on Sat 23rd May at The Toff in Town. We think we likey.

ladies, ladies, ladies

Hoo mamma … we’ve updated our music player and we’ve got some special lady-lovin’ tunes to share. Click on the tape icon top left to have a listen. First off there’s psych folk songstress Alela Diane with “White as Diamonds”. Now, we’ve remarked on here before that Portland seems to be America’s home of everything indie-cool, and while Miss Diane grew up in Nevada City she lives there now, so we can add her to the ‘Portland is rad’ list. Also add to the list of ‘lovely-throated, soulful, dreamy-with-a-touch-of-twang musos to make you smile’. Perfect for drinking chai to on a cold winter’s day.

Next cab off the lady rank is Brisbane’s Kate Bradley. And what list can we put her on? ‘Creators of songs you want to dance to past midnight on Saturday night’? ‘The I can’t believe it’s not PJ Harvey and/or Patti Smith’ list? All right – no more lists. Just have a listen. Her song is “No Start Red Light” and it’s pretty tops.

Rounding off the lady list (OK, three ladies and one token male) are Butcher Birds , also from Brissie. Recommended for when you wanna rock the hell out, they’ve got a scuzzy, L7/Breeders vibe that makes us want to put on our old Docs and a flanno and mosh in slo-mo while making devil’s horn fingers all over the shop. This song is “Tiger Paw”. Hope you like.
