| Don’t sweat it frankie fashionistas, when we say green is the new black, we don’t mean literally. We’re talking about going ‘green’ in terms of being environmentally friendly when it comes to fashion. If you happen to be one of frankie's spring chickens and are still 18 or under, you have a chance to re-evaluate, re-image and re-create the consumer experience through design. Ambiguous Horse is re-launching their Don’t Sweat Shop at the Melbourne International Design Festival. They will be running workshops where participants will have the chance to design and create their own garment from recycled materials and in doing so, will learn about sustainable manufacturing practices and their role as ‘end users’ in the clothing industry. Go green you frankie trend setters!!! |

If you love melissa shoes then you’ll love the steps they are taking to be environmentally friendly. All melissa products are created from mono-materials that can be easily disassembled and recycled. Solid, liquid and gas residues, leftover from the production process, are recycled and dealt with in-house. Nothing leaves their factory without being properly treated, resulting in practically zero waste. For stockist or more greenie information head to www.melissaaustralia.com.au. |

Get spick and span with an environmental plan! B_E_E home cleaning products have shrewdly and consciously created Beauty Engineered for Ever, a great little mishmash of nature, science and beauty. Creating Australian eco-warrior, design-savvy products, it’s no wonder awards have been sparkling B_E_E’s way. Quirky? Tick. Eco-friendly? Tick. Hot packaging? Tick. Yay – all the dirty work has been done for us. |

They’re too young to chain themselves to old-growth trees or scare the bejeezus out of Japanese whalers, but the bubs in your life can take up the greenie cause by kitting themselves out in sustainable clothing. (And promising to invent the no-emission car when they’re older; but first things first, eh?) Eco Peko is a new children’s clothing label featuring high quality organic cotton and ‘save the earth’ slogans every kiddie can get behind. Plus they’ll throw in a packet of organic veggie seeds with every purchase. Go to www.ecopeko.com to have a look at their stuff. |

Proving that style isn’t all about high fashion, design students and Salvos stores are collaborating once again for this year’s Recreate Fashion Show. The students have been given a brief to build a collection from items found at Salvos Stores, which they then re-use and re-style into a selection of outfits for the catwalk showcase. This year’s diverse collections include Lucy Swift and Jess Eisenhauer’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Lauren Glasson’s Garden Tea Party and Venice Carnival Collection by Amy Falentine, plus lots more re-creations. If you’re in Melbourne you should check out the whole show on Tuesday 14th October at Ormond Hall, Prahran. Make sure you reserve your spot here. Ooh, and we have a double pass to give away. This is a bit clever. Brisbane-based eco ladies EnviroTrend have come up with these super re-usable gift bags made of the same stuff as the green shoppers that get thrown in the back of the car every time you’re off to Coles. Each bag comes with a blank gift card and a black satin ribbon to secure it together, so no sticky tape or paper required. We just want to know how many times one of these babies can get re-gifted before they’re demoted to shopping duties. They’re $12.75 for a pack of two at www.envirotrend.com.au |

There are two types of people that we particularly love here at frankie: creative people, and people who want to help out Ms. Nature. If you think that you fit into both categories and could earn the title 'Eco-Visionary', then you should think about entering The Big Green Idea. They're looking for entries from creatives, designers, scientists and engineers who want to make a difference to the environment. Applications open Monday 21st for the six grants of either $10,000 or $20,000. Check here for more details. |
